By the time the 2015 BMW M3 sedan and M4 coupe were revealed at the Detroit auto show, we already knew a lot about what to expect from the Roundel's newest generation of high-performance driving machines. It was no secret, for example, that the new M3 sedan and its two-door counterpart, the M4, will be down two cylinders and a few hundred pounds from their predecessors. Now that we've had a chance to get a look at the cars in production trim, here's a closer look at what's under all the aggressively vented fascias, spoilers and M badges.
The McLaren MSO 650S Concept (pictured) becomes a production model
In April, we revealed the McLaren MSO 650S Coupe Concept, and such has been the reaction from McLaren buyers that McLaren has decided to put it in to production, with a total of 50 cars being built in both Coupe and Spider guise and debuting this week at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The production MSO 650S carries over many of the elements of the Concept, but McLaren’s Design Director, Frank Stephenson, has had input to make more changes including a number of carbon fibre styling upgrades with a satin finish, a three-piece rear bumper with carbon fibre centre section and a more aggressive rear diffuser. The MSO Concept came in Agrigan Black, but the production version will be available in ‘Papaya Spark (a take on McLaren orange), Sarigan Quartz ( new metallic silver with gold infusion) and the Agrigan Black of the concept.
Volvo S80
Volvo has released pictures of the second-generation S80, a model series which when first launched in 1998 revived the Swedish brand with less slab-like, more expressive styling. This new model evolves those themes, and with it now carries Volvo's compact V8 that first appeared in the XC90 SUV last year. With 315PS put to the road through all four wheels, it will be Volvo's spearhead for penetrating the crucial American market and luring 35,000 new owners each year.
